Client: Southern Scottish Energy

Year: 2011

Survey Type: Fire Risk Assessment

Project size: 1,200,000sqft

Oakleaf were contracted by Castle Fire to undertake a Fire Risk Assessment, focusing on commercial risk, of the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) and the Biomass Plant. The contract was awarded in two phases with Oakleaf reappointed to assess the Biomass Plant following the successful completion of the FGD audits.

Oakleaf’s specialist risk assessors used their extensive knowledge of British Standards and National Fire Prevention Association regulations (NFPA850). The team, comprised of NFPA members undertook the audits during Autumn 2010 and Spring 2011 with reports delivered on schedule utilising SSE’s own risk criteria.

The survey findings have subsequently been used to demonstrate where requisite standards have not been adhered to and the steps that SSE can take to ensure their design and build contractor rectifies the failings without SSE incurring any unnecessary costs.

Oakleaf had also been commissioned to carry out detailed risk inspections of oil cooled power transformers and blast walls due to their proximity to a Control Room building.
