Fire Training

Fire Training

The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 states that the responsible person must ensure that their employees are provided with adequate safety training:

i) When they are first employed
ii) When they are exposed to new risks because:

  • they are given a change in responsibilities
  • there is new work equipment installed
  • there is the introduction of new technology
  • there is the introduction of new working practice or procedure.

This fire training is to be repeated periodically and to take place during working hours

The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 does not specify the scope of the training requirements for the use of fire extinguishers but it does require ‘suitable and sufficient instruction and training on the appropriate precautions and actions to be taken by employee’. It further requires that training be carried out periodically where appropriate.

We are able to offer the following training: Fire Safety Induction Training, Fire Awareness Update Training, Fire Warden Training and Fire Extinguisher Training.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Some employers have adopted the adage 'don’t attempt to fight the fire just leave the building'. While this appears sensible on the surface the question has to be asked: why have fire extinguishers at all, if no one will use them? A small fire can be easily dealt with by correctly discharging a suitable extinguisher. If an employee is expected to make use of extinguishers then the RRSO 2005 confirms that initial and periodic training must be given. Any person, who may be called upon to use a fire extinguisher, should be trained in the correct selection and practical use of the equipment.

Some insurers require organisations to train staff in the practical use of extinguishers.

If this is something that you have not provided for your staff we would be delighted to assist.
