Project Background

Oakleaf carried out a Fire Risk Assessment of the Bio-mass plant at the Fiddlers Ferry power station for Southern Scottish Energy (SSE). Fiddlers Ferry is a 1,989 mega watt co-firing power station located on the bank of the river Mersey between Widnes and Warrington. There had been some historic fires on the Bio-mass conveyors and SSE were keen to reduce the risk and ensure continuity of production.

Detailed assessments were carried out to the conveyors and hoppers (including the deflagration vents) and Boiler House. Recommendations were made to reduce the risks including changes to the management of the vents.
