The External Wall Fire Review Process (EWS1)

Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, fire safety in blocks of flats, particularly around cladding and external walls has become a high profile subject on the public agenda.

In response to Government advice following the Grenfell Tower tragedy the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), The Building Societies Association (BSA) and UK Finance agreed an industry-wide process for assisting with valuation of residential properties in blocks of flats over 18 metres in height. This process involves the production of an EWS1 form following a review of the buildings construction by suitably qualified personnel. This guidance has since been updated to bring all residential blocks into scope.

Oakleaf are experienced in, and fully insured for, carrying out external wall fire safety reviews and providing EWS1 forms on behalf of the building owner or responsible person having done so for Borough Councils, social housing providers, private landlords and managing agents.

Through desktop review, site inspection and intrusive investigations, Oakleaf’s expert team provide clear advice on external wall fire safety alongside wider advice relating to recent and upcoming legislation such the Fire Safety Act and Building Safety Bill and compiling the ‘Golden Thread’ of information relating to a buildings fire safety.
